Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo is one of the most common types of vestibular vertigo accounting for 17-42% of all patients diagnosed with vertigo.
The condition remains ambiguous with not much clear knowledge on why it occurs in certain people.
A recent systematic review analyzed 19 studies of 14,286 participants to determine certain risk factors associated with BPPV.
Their findings resulted in strong evidence supporting 6 common risk factors. 5+ Risk Factors for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo by Cameron Faller
👉Female Gender
👉Vitamin D Deficiency
👉Osteoporosis
👉Migraine
👉Head Trauma
👉High Total Cholesterol
Some of these risk factors associated with the occurrence and recurrence of BPPV are modifiable and some are not.
Other factors that were investigated but yielded inconclusive results were age, bone mineral density, history of stroke, smoking, drinking, and physical inactivity
